After months of going back and forth about our honeymoon location — we finally decided on Saint Lucia! St. Lucia is the absolute perfect place to honeymoon because it is very quaint and romantic. It was very important for us to pick a destination that did not require us to do a lot of sightseeing to enjoy (which ruled out a lot of places). After planning a destination wedding, the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time traveling or have a jam-packed honeymoon. We simply wanted to relax and take in the beautiful scenery while enjoying each other!
Follow along for our trip highlights and recommendations.
TOP THREE REASONS TO CONSIDER ST. LUCIA:
-
Picturesque – beautiful landscape with breathtaking views
-
Direct flights available from major cities ( less than 5 hours)
-
Many options for things to do- whether you are looking to relax, party or explore
WHEN TO GO:
The most popular time to travel to St. Lucia is between January – April due to low precipitation and warm temperatures (80s). It is important to note that Sant Lucia sits in the hurricane belt and is at risk throughout the hurricane season, but hurricane activity tends to peak between August and September. The rainy season generally falls between June – November.
We visited during their rainy season but experienced very few rain showers during our time there. Pro Tip: Booking during their off-season is a great way to find travel deals.
WHERE TO STAY:
We stayed at the beautiful Viceroy Sugar Beach!! This is a luxury beachfront property that sits in the middle of a rainforest with insane views of The Pitons (major landmark). It also offers different accommodations — we decided on a private villa with plunge pool and butler. The food at the resort was also amazing! Our stay at Sugar Beach was phenomenal!
If I were to go back to St. Lucia, I would love to spend a night at Jade Mountain (just for their endless views). We considered staying here for our honeymoon but I was uncertain if I would like the open-air concept for our entire honeymoon.

GETTING THERE AND AROUND:
Pro Tip: Most major cities offer direct flights to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in St. Lucia! This was major for us because we did not want our vacation days to be taken up with layovers/or long travel time to our destination. The hotel was located 45 mins from the airport – transfers were arranged by our hotel for $75 one way. There may be cheaper options for hotel transfers– worth looking into. Of course, I am all about convenience so we decided to book through our hotel. We used taxis to get around the island – can be booked through the hotel as well.
THINGS TO DO:
-
Diamond Falls
-
Lunch at Jade Mountain (if you do not stay there)
-
Botanical Gardens
-
Cocoa Plantation
-
Volcanic Sulphur Springs — HIGHLY RECOMMEND (pictures included below)
-
Marigot Bay & Pigeon Island Natural Park (great for snorkeling and swimming)
-
Explore Castries (capital of St. Lucia)
-
Gros Islet Street Party (Friday Nights – drinks, music, seafood, local arts, and craft)
-
Spend a day relaxing on Sugar Beach / Water Sports on Sugar Beach
-
Scuba Diving
-
Horseback Riding
-
Romantic Sunset Sail
-
Hike Petit Piton or Gros Piton – strenuous hike, be sure to do thorough research on what to expect! It is not for the faint of heart but the views are INSANE at the top! I think it is worth adding to your bucket list if you are adventurous and physically fit. If you’re interested in more info, I found a pretty thorough blog post with good info
CURRENCY:
The currency of St. Lucia is the Easter Carribean Dollar (EC). The exchange is ~ $1 = 2.65 EC. But, there is no need to exchange money because US dollars are accepted throughout the island.
“The best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures.”
TIPS:
-
Book in advance – we were able to secure a cheaper rate for our hotel stay during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale. Planning ahead will give you more time to track price trends before locking in the best deal
-
Consider traveling during low peak season
-
Be sure to have some travel insurance if traveling during hurricane season. If you have a travel credit card, check with your card company FIRST before buying additional travel insurance. Some companies automatically provide coverage for your trip if you book with the designated card.
-
If you do nothing else, BRING INSECT REPELLENT and Sunscreen. As I mentioned, the resort is surrounded by lush rainforest – so there are a ton of bugs.
◊ St. Lucia did not disappoint. I HIGHLY recommend if you’re looking for a romantic getaway ◊
